I'm Lorenzo Bernini (not that one, but this one), a Visual/Motion Designer and 3D Artist.
Since I can remember, I've always enjoyed coming up with weird stories and telling them through pictures. Over the years I have developed this passion through filmmaking, graphic design, 2D and 3D animation.

Rationalist Utopia

Inspired by old photographs of scale models of Italian rationalist architecture and urban planning projects designed between the 1920s and 1940s, Rationalist Utopia reflects on one of the most controversial legacies of Fascism in Italy.
Made with Blender and After Effects.
I also created @rationalistutopia, where you can find a growing collection of AI generated images of imaginary rationalist buildings.

Fictional Brands Archive

Fictional Brands Archive is a collection of many fictional brands found in films, series and video games. It is structured according to the principles of brand identity design and aims to provide a comprehensive view of each fictional brand, framing them in their own fictional context and documenting their use and execution in the source work.
The website was developed as part of my Master's thesis, titled Fictional Brand Design.
The project was featured on Brand New, The Brand Identity and It's Nice That.

View-Master

When I was little my mother gifted to me this view-master, which had been gifted to her as a child by my grandfather. Recently, I found it in the garage and I thought it deserved a bit of love.

Tadpoles

Ever since I was a kid, I've always liked to hang around ponds and streams to see if I could find frogs, newts, and tadpoles.

Your Inner Insect

Your Inner Insect investigates the theme of metamorphosis through the eyes of Franz Kafka. In his book The Metamorphosis (1916) the author links complex psychological conditions, to an insect (a cockroach).
The website consists of a guided experience where users can explore their social insecurities by answering some questions through different types of interactions. Each question is associated with a different insect’s body part. By answering each question the user will be assigned different types of insect’s body parts according to the answer selected. At the end of the test, all the body parts combined will give shape to a new kind of insect, your inner insect.

Sunday

Sunday is a story-driven puzzle game where you play as a man who wakes up in his house having lost his memory. His wife and children have disappeared. Even stranger, he realizes that when he opens the front door, it leads him back to his bedroom, leaving him stuck in a loop inside his house.
On this project, I first developed the main concept and then wrote the entire story of the game. As the only designer on the team, I then worked on designing the environments, building them in Blender and bringing them into Unity. This included texturing every asset and lighting every scene.
Download and play the game on itch.io.

SOLi

SOLi is a 17-minute short film that tells a story set in a future where people have lost the habit of communicating and staying together, developed during Italy's first covid lockdown in 2020.
Made in 3D with Blender, I was responsible for every step of the creative process, from pre-production (writing, storyboarding, concept art) to production (modeling, shading, retopology, animation, directing, lighting) and post-production (editing, sound, color correction).
The full-length short film and a detailed work report are available on the project website.

Schadenfruedemetertest

Schandefreudemetertest is an interactive experience that takes place thanks to a machine, consisting of six screens, an eye-tracker and a printer. The experience resembles a scientific test, whose purpose is to explore human morbidity and the concept of schadenfreude (the pleasure driven by others' misfortunes), in its multiple emotional and social implications.
The user rests his chin on a special support and watches a series of videos on the screens, one of which concerns the death of one or more people. If the attention lingers long enough on the violent video, another screen will start broadcasting death videos and so on. The eye-tracker records the subject's attention shifts and returns a printed report, where a graph and other data, illustrate the result of the test.
The project was featured on SpeculativeEdu, on FuorisaloneTV and exhibited at Triennale Milano.
